IMHO, it is extreme surprise if any 3d-chip maker have even same caliber hardware out when PSX2 comes out..

Sony seems to first manufacturer/maker to get such
"next-gen" hardware out...

Key difficulties are =< 0.18micron fabrication and embedded memory technology.

PSX2 gfx chip is quite "avarage" if things like
paraller pixel engines are cut from 16 to 1 or 2, and embebbed memory is replaced by regular SDRAM.

So success of getting huge performance is synergy of many things. Unfortunately in PC world that
synergy is difficuld to get... too general hardware.

But i am not complaining,,.. noo, no, even current
PC hardware fills my hobby programming needs.. :-)
